Price Estimate for DNA Testing

These costs vary by the institution, but often are based on multiples of 96 of 382 ( = 4 x 96), corresponding to the number of samples analytical equipment can process in a single run. Below are some costs the Washington State University Tree Fruit Genetics Porgram would typically charge when it provided genotyping services.

Number of Samples Per Crop Price Per sample*
10-96 $5 + $1 per test
97-384 $4 + $1 per test
385+ $3 + $1 per test

Prices vary depending if DNA extraction is required and if the DNA tests can be combined. It is important to contact a service lab and discuss costs, timelines, your optins and their expectations for plant tissue sampling. RosBREED has developed a list of genotyping service providers. Please note that this list is not exhaustive, and RosBREED does not endorse any service providers, whether listed or not. If you represent a genotyping service center that would like to be added to this list, please contact us.

Here are some Instructions for plant tissue sampling developed by the USDA-ARS Hortcultural Crops Research program located in Corvallis, OR. While different testing centers may have different requirements, the principles incuded are useful when using any service lab. They also use a plate layout map key for indicating which samples are being sent to the genotyping center.
